Tell us a a bit more about Tiny Sarah’s Cakes…

I am a vegan cake decorator. All my cakes are made from scratch by hand, with raw, mostly organic, Fairtrade and local ingredients. Every cake I make is unique and tailor made.

What inspired you to start your business?

I am a French trained baker and because I love cakes (making and eating them – and feeding people with  their deliciousness) and I’ve always loved weddings (because I am basically obsessed with parties and cute, pretty things) I just thought it would be pretty perfect to put the two together, and make amazing looking and yummy cakes. Also, being vegan, I couldn’t imagine not making vegan cakes.

How do you make your business more sustainable?

Making vegan cakes means no animals has been hurt or exploited at any point in my cake making, which is the least people who love animals would require. My chocolate is Fairtrade too. I buy everything I can in bulk, meaning less waste – although I do get the odd remark from my boyfriend, as I stock 100kg of sugar in the house…! I use a lot of recycled and eco friendly materials such as boxes, napkins, forks and biodegradable products such as piping bags. Unfortunately, hygiene rules makes it impossible to be completely zero waste and not to use any plastic at all – but I do my best to find alternatives (and I mostly succeed). I also have a compost bin in my garden, which I love!

How are you different from any other similar suppliers?

I’m pretty different. I’ve not come across a vegan baker who makes tiered fondant cakes in the area. I also have a very distinctive style which ranges from pretty and cute, to elegant and most of the time quite minimalistic. My figurines are my trade mark. I am also a professionally trained baker – which is not something you come across very often.

I believe I’m also a pretty cool person. I’m actually quite funny and I always do my absolute best to help everyone, however I can.

What do you love most about working in the wedding industry?

Planning a wedding can be stressful at times but it is also one of the greatest times of someone’s life. I love being able to share these moments with clients and be a part of their happiness. Cakes are probably one of the less stressful things to sort out – how can sitting in a room and tasting little clouds of happiness be anything other than amazing?

I am also a little bit obsessed with weddings and parties because they are just so pretty.

What would be your number one piece of advice for a bride to be?

My number one piece of advice wouldn’t be for brides but for newlyweds. The day after your wedding, take an hour and write down everything that happened during the day, absolutely everything, even the little details. It will go so fast and you will forget so many things that you would have wanted to remember.

Tell us about the best thing you have seen at a wedding you have been to?

One of my friends is obsessed with Disney and all of her guests had to come wearing Disney attire to her wedding, i.e. an outfit inspired by a Disney character but without being dressed up. It was super fun deciding what to wear and which character to be, and then trying to guess who everyone was!
