Tell us a a bit more about Wonderland Invites…
I am an award-winning wedding stationer and calligrapher based in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex. Inspired by nature, and all things rustic and boho, I create custom stationery for clients across the UK and internationally. From save the dates and invitations, to on the day items such as table plans, orders of service and table items, I work closely with each of my couples to create beautiful stationery which is unique to their personalities and their big day.
What inspired you to start your business?
I’d worked in the media for a number of years, but knew I wanted to do something more creative with my life. I absolutely adore weddings, and have quite an artistic nature. After a couple of friends asked me to create items for their weddings, I decided to throw myself into the world of wedding and event stationery. And I haven’t looked back!
How are you different from the other suppliers that offer the same service?
I feel my designs are quite unique and distinguishable. There are many stationers who use florals in their designs, but the way I compose my artwork is slightly different. I also focus mainly on custom designed stationery; which allows my brides and grooms to have artwork which is truly tailored to them and their wedding theme/colour scheme.
How do you make your business eco?
I work from my home studio, which automatically reduces the potential footprint of running a standalone studio. And as we are conscious of recycling and reducing waste at home, that naturally transpires across my business.I outsource print, to ensure print consistency, to a an FSC approved print company who are also committed to reducing waste. The handmade paper I source is ethically made.
For the styling aspect of my business, I try to buy vintage or reclaimed items as much as possible.
What do you love most about working in the wedding industry?
I love the romanticism of it all; weddings are all about love, laughter and spreading joy amongst family and friends. Whats not to love?
I adore seeing the vision a couple has become a reality. When I receive images from a couples day, its so exciting to see how my stationery had played a part, and how it has tied in with the venue and the rest of the decor. It truly is an amazing, rewarding job!
What would be your number one piece of advice for a bride for be?
Plan, plan, plan. And pin, pin, pin!
Planning ahead is a surefire way to save you from any stresses that may creep up on you nearer the big day. In the weeks before the wedding, you’ll want to be relaxing, preening and generally psyching yourself up for the day itself, so please try not to put yourself under any undue pressure.
Tell us about the best thing you have seen at a wedding you have been to?
One of my closest friends was married in the New Forest a couple of years ago, at a quaint little church with her reception taking place in her parent-in-laws back garden. She handmade metres and metres of bunting, which was a gorgeous touch. But by far my favourite part of the day was waving them off from the church as they left on the trailer of the local farmers tractor! Decked out in bunting and hay bales of course!
