Bride Diaries: Elle’s Hen Do // Magical Marrakech

I admit it I’m a control freak and I like to know what I’m doing at all times – I meticulously organised everything and love a good plan. For my hen do I decided I would let this all go and gave my 4 bridesmaids complete control over the weekend. I honestly did not 100% know where we were going until I got to the gate although I had my suspicions on the theme.

I had been sent a Pinterest board with capsule wardrobes so I had an idea of what to pack – casual summery clothes. So I was a bit stumped when my soon to be sister in law picked me up in full ski gear and insisted I went back to get my coat and made me wear the most hideous hen suit – I hate being embarrassed and this was really my worst nightmare.
We whizzed to Gatwick in the early hours of Friday morning, I ditched the hen outfit before meeting up with the rest of my bride tribe. I was extremely lucky to have 14 of my closet friends come on my hen do. When we got to the gate I saw where we were going and was super exited – Marrakech. I love the culture and history of Northern Africa and the Middle East so they chose the perfect place for my final girly weekend before becoming a Mrs.

One we landed and sorted our currency we were met by our taxi drivers and driven to Riad Chamali. The Riad was stunning and we had the whole place to ourselves. I was a little overwhelmed when we first got there it was beautiful, peaceful and instantly calming. The white and blue interior shimmered against the water from the pool and made you feel you had stepped into a different world. After claiming rooms – they were all equally nice! We sat down for our first traditional meal together put on by the Riad.

Half way through the meal I heard a familiar voice say “sorry I’m late” and one of by bridesmaids and best friends who lives in Singapore had arrived. I was shocked and emotionally overwhelmed – we had a big hug and there were tears but this was the best gift of the whole weekend.

After lunch we had henna on the terrace followed by a few drinks before getting changed and heading out to eat at Comptoir Darna. The place gave a glimmer of modern Morocco with fancy cocktails and a twist on traditional food. After dinner we were entertained by music and dancing – I even got to dance on the table! After dinner we headed back to the Riad as we were all shattered from our early starts.

The next morning we had breakfast at the Riad – the ladies in the kitchen and the 2 waiters Mohammed and Abdul were amazing throughout the trip, they looked after us and made sure we were always having the best time. We had a chilled morning before having hen do tattoos – the bride tribe were well and truly branded. We had lunch at the trendy rooftop bar Terrace des Epices and in the afternoon we all split off into groups around the souks, bartering and searching for treasures.

The late afternoon was spent showing off our purchases to one another and getting ready for the ultimate Moroccan house party. The hens had thought of everything decorating the Riad with giant engagement ring, hen do, fey once balloons. Moutaa had organised a traditional Moroccan feast which was accompanied with music and belly dancing! The staff even sang a good luck song to me. The evening did turn a bit messy and I was pushed in the pool in the early hours of the morning!

After a late late night we all woke up bleary eyed to another delicious breakfast. None of us felt like doing much and the weather was a cool 24 degrees so we stayed in chatting and sun baking on the terrace. A few of us even squeezed in a cheeky massage organised by the Riad. In the afternoon we explored the beautiful Jardin Majorelle and later on we went to a small restaurant for one final meal before we headed back to the airport and home to London.
