Honeymoon Spotlight: Road Tripping in California

Honeymoon Spotlight: Road Tripping in California | British wedding blog - Bride and Tonic

Bride and Tonic were very lucky to spend two weeks road tripping around California with our friends as part of a big birthday celebration. We dreamed of long endless days, sunsets and the open road and this holiday did not disappoint. California has everything from modern cities, vineyards, beaches and some of the most stunning scenery. This is our journey and we hope to give you nuggets of info that inspire your own trip to a place that captured our hearts!

San Francisco

Where we stayed:

Hotel Carlton / The hotel has a super laid back vibe with large rooms and good amenities with an eclectic décor but it is a bit run down.

Where we ate:

Nopa / Chilled back vibe, sleek interior and a buzzy atmosphere. The food is urban, rustic and delicious. They have a great range of beer and cocktails that entice you to stay all day!

Tipsy Pig / Old style saloon with a unique selection of beers and a large garden.

Glaze Teriyaki / Delicious, nutritious food combining the best flavours and ingredients from both Korea and Japan. And it’s cheap – so a win win!

Over The Moon Creamery / Retro ice cream diner serving the tastiest cones, shakes, sundaes and ice cream sandwiches.

Where we stayed:

Hotel Milo / Right on the seafront this hotel has a tranquil vibe, great service and was our favourite throughout the trip. The spacious rooms have great amenities and it is worth upgrading to an ocean view room. Relax at one of the two hotel pools or ride one of the complimentary bikes along the boulevard.

Mony’s Mexican / This shack offers cheap delicious authentic Mexican food!

South Coast Deli / America knows how to do sandwiches and this deli was recommended and didn’t disappoint. Check out the picture of us eating our mammoth sandwiches.

Lark / The best restaurant in Santa Barbara serving modern mediterranean food with a twist.

Santa Barbara Fishouse / Sit on the balcony and enjoy $5 drinks and uber fresh seafood! We may have got a bit tipsy…

Los Angeles

Where we stayed:

Hollywood Roosevelt / Chic, modern, busting with history and located right on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

We stopped off in LA for one night and caught up with friends before heading to Laguna Beach the next day.

Laguna Beach

Where we stayed:

Pacific Edge Hotel / Accommodation was expensive so we opted for a refurbished motel right on the beach front. It was clean but the rooms were noisy – zero sound proofing and gaps between the rooms. It was fine for 1 or 2 nights but not for any longer. The Deck restaurant overlooks the beach and is a great place to hang out and people watch!

Where we ate:

The Cliff /  The best breakfast in Laguna – try the fried chicken and waffles.

The Deck / Chilled vibes, good tunes and fresh food.

230 Forest Avenue / Loved the food here as it was super fresh, tasty and the portion sizes are HUGE!

San Diego

Where we stayed:

Hilton San Diego Bayfront / large, modern hotel which was designed with the sun and sea in mind. The hotel has amazing views of the bay and Padres’ Petco Park and is located a short walk from the trendy Gas Lamp district where you can walk along the front to the USS Midway and beyond.

Where we ate:

Café 222 / Grab breakfast here and you won’t be disappointed!

La Puerta / If you like Mexican food and tequila then head here. They have over 100 tequilas in their collection – we challenge you to taste them all!

This was one of the best trips we have ever been on and we would recommend travelling the Pacific Highway for your honeymoon? Have we persuaded you to visit USA and get some California loving!
