Today we bring you a brand new wedding venue in Devon – its dreamy and one that could have been a serious contender for Elle’s wedding! The lovely, talented photographer Frances Carlisle captured the opening ‘Cupcakes and Couture’ where newly engaged couples were invited to look round the venue. Read on to find out more about the venue and the host of suppliers who bought the venue alive, some maybe featuring in Elle’s wedding – watch this space.
Hillersdon House is a new wedding venue just outside Exeter, Devon – and it opened up to VIP guests at its recent ‘Cupcakes and Couture’ open day. It’s got just about everything you could want for at a wedding and the beauty of it is that it’s all just so beautiful. It’s a modernised old country house, has a fantastic collection of contemporary art, snooker table, wine cellar, lakeside chapel and rowing boat, cosy sofas, woodland and deer.
Having just opened up to weddings (only a limited number each year), Blue Fizz Wedding Planners put together a team of fantastic suppliers who’ve worked at Hillersdon before to showcase what’s on offer for couples. The styling was very much relaxed but luxurious, abundant and rich floral displays, free flowing foliage in the chapel and some rustic and warm autumnal colours setting off the Hillersdon tartan.
‘Cupcakes and Couture’ invited newly engaged couples to sample how a wedding might look for them at Hillersdon. Wedding photographer Frances Carlisle and film makers Baxter and Ted captured the event.
Couples were greeted with outstandingly decorated cupcakes (courtesy of Daisy, Molly and Me and Sugar Mamas Cakery), champagne and a goody bag and given a tour of the house, landscaped gardens, chestnut tree walk, honeymoon cottage, and the lake with it’s own rowing boat and wattle-and-daub chapel all decked out in flowers and foliage. There’s a lot on offer – including a herd of deer! Couples getting married at Hillersdon would use the lakeside chapel for the ceremony and hold either an indoors intimate reception in the house or a marquee for larger weddings in the grounds just opposite.
Lovely Bridal (from nearby Honiton, Devon) put on a roaming catwalk of brides modelling at least 8 different gowns. From bridal separates to 50s style statement skirt glamour – just check out the pockets! We took the brides out onto the terrace for some late evening shots of the dresses as the sun set over the hills and the last guests left – the perfect setting for some fantastic golden hour photos!
What a great day! Huge congratulations to all the suppliers who took part and we can’t wait to see weddings at this venue very soon! Big thank you to Frances Carlisle for allowing us to share her work.
